Now that the scroll has FINALLY been given to its recipient, I can post it. I only do the illumination, the calligraphy was done by Maaline. I had fun hiding things within the illumination, cookie points for those who can find them (hint: they're all scifi related).
The shape of the border and the celtic knotwork are all from various pages of the Book of Kells. All elements of the painted insets (which represent the service for which this scroll was given) are from period sources with the exception of the basket holding the roses, the marshal stick, and the gopher with the shepherd’s crook.
